About Me

My name is Anna-Liza Mopio-Jane and I am a speaker, counsellor and Olympian. I have over 20 years within the sports industry as a former elite athlete, sports administrator, events coordinator, and athlete wellbeing.

I am an accredited counsellor through the Australian Counselling Association. With international level competition experience in swimming, representing Papua New Guinea at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, three Commonwealth Games and five World Championships.

I started my own private practice in counselling with a focus on working with clients such as athletes and other high performers who are striving for success and high performance within their careers. My focus is on prioritising their own mental health and wellbeing, while uncovering their own unique pathway to elite and high performance.

I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Leisure Management, majoring in Sports Management at Griffith University while training and competing internationally. I then started my career in sports administration, events and management while still competing as an elite athlete. Once I retired from swimming, I worked fulltime at UQ Sport, in a role supporting elite athletes at the University of Queensland managing their sporting and academic commitments. This is where I discovered how passionate I was about giving back to sport by helping athletes prioritise their mental health and wellbeing.

I’ve since gone on to work at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, training and managing over 100 volunteers assigned to the Chef de Missions of the 72 Nations of the Commonwealth. After having my first son, I enrolled back into University and completed a Graduate Diploma of Counselling at the University of Southern Queensland, while also working as a Student Support Officer with Yalari, a not-for-profit organisation that offers quality, secondary education scholarships at leading Australian boarding schools for Indigenous children from regional and remote communities.

As a professional speaker, I share my story with audiences such as sport teams, corporate functions, and events. More information available here.
